Aeronautics Commission Awards $10,200 Aerospace & Aviation Education Grant to Ponca City Regional Airport

OKLAHOMA CITY –  Twenty-five organizations were recently awarded Aerospace and Aviation Education Program grants or contracts totaling over $270,000 from the Oklahoma Aeronautics Commission (OAC). The record amount of funds will be used to expose more school-aged children in Oklahoma to STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) careers, particularly those in aerospace and aviation.  The funding was approved by the Commission at their most recent meeting.

Commission approved an education grant for Ponca City Regional Airport to provide students the opportunity to attend the Northern Oklahoma Flight Academy. The flight academy held in June 2018 at the Ponca City airport, will conduct its 15th annual one-week summer aviation and aerospace education camp for middle and high school students. This program is established on sound math and science (STEM) concepts ad hands-on interaction education with aviation and aerospace presented as a career option for students. The requested amount was $15,000 and the agency staff recommendation was $10,200.

“OAC has been a community partner with the Ponca City Regional Airport since 2007 through the aviation education grant program, and we look forward to seeing the progress they achieve with their students,” said Catherine Taber, aviation program manager and aviation education coordinator for the Commission.
